“TABLE is a small but mighty organization,” said Tippins. “We deliver every week to over 700 kids — healthy non-perishables, local produce and fresh milk — and we also provide weekly nutrition lessons to our kids … The thing that’s so cool about it is that we are able to know the kids and families that we serve and that’s something that TABLE is actively working towards right now as well.”
TABLE provides healthy and nutritious emergency food aid to school-aged children, and Tippins has been working with the organization for over a decade, since she was volunteering as an undergraduate student at UNC. Now, volunteers are needed more than ever to keep TABLE going and the food deliveries going.
“For TABLE, we depend on 145 volunteers plus every single week to deliver our bags of food and provide our nutrition lessons,” said Tippins. “That’s a huge number of volunteers and we honestly could not do it. We couldn’t sort the food, package the food, deliver the food or execute the nutrition lessons without our volunteers.”
