Muriel Williman, Solid Waste Education and Outreach Coordinator for Orange County Government, has been working for the past 17 years to reduce waste throughout the Triangle. Through teaching and modeling principles of integrated solid waste management, source reduction, reuse, recycling and composting and leading local special events in zero-waste practices, Williman works to embed zero-waste practices in places and events where they’re both beneficial and visible to visitors and residents alike!

From hotels to restaurants, events to residences, Williman believes that the most direct way to have a positive effect on people, prosperity and the planet is to pay attention to waste prevention. On this edition of “This is Tourism,” she talks about some of those benefits and answers the essential question: “where does it go?”
