South Greensboro Street in Carrboro has officially reopened for traffic after more than two months of being closed for construction.

The roadway has been closed since June 11 as crews were installing a roundabout intersection at South Greensboro Street, Old Pittsboro Road and Two Hills Drive. The roundabout is intended to improve safety, access and mobility.

The thoroughfare was scheduled to open on Monday, August 13, but rain pushed the opening back. After town officials said South Greensboro Street would be open to traffic beginning on Friday, crews were actually able to finish up work on Thursday and open the road to normal traffic after the morning commute.

A portion of South Greensboro Street was also closed for construction from March until June last year, which also was exacerbated by heavy rain delaying the timeline for completion.
