The Town of Carrboro announced Monday that sewer maintenance work will be taking place in the downtown area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Travel lanes on Greensboro Street, Weaver Street and Main Street will be affected by the work completed by the Orange Water and Sewer Authority, or OWASA.

Signage will be posted to alert motorists of the changes, which will largely take place in the turn lanes of two intersections: where North Greensboro Street meets Weaver Street, and where Greensboro Street meets Main Street. Motorists will not be allowed to make left turns at these intersections during works hours, according to the release.

The sewer work will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and is scheduled to be completed by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, weather permitting.

It is part of the wide-ranging East Main Street Sewer Rehabilitation Project, which aims to upgrade sewer infrastructure in downtown Carrboro. The project will replace 2,000 feet of sewer lines and multiple manholes, and is scheduled to take place from January until June. While the current work is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, most of the project will take place on weekends.
