The Town of Carrboro is continuing its plans to construct a sidewalk from the north end of Old Pittsboro Road to Public Works Drive on South Greensboro Street, but the local government is still looking for input from the community on how they should do so.

The town is holding remote public meetings on Thursday, January 28, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January, 30 at 11 a.m. to provide information to town residents and take in feedback. The event will feature an update from engineering consultant team Ramey Kemp Associates, Inc. regarding the proposed design for the sidewalk and the anticipated schedule for completion.

Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle recently spoke with 97.9 The Hill about the upcoming meetings.

“It’s an opportunity to hear thoughts about one of the biggest questions people have,” Lavelle said. “What side of the street is it actually going to be on?”

Discussion on the project, and which side of South Greensboro Street the sidewalk will be constructed on, has been ongoing since May of last year. Once completed, town staff say it will provide better access for pedestrians from the high-density area along Smith Level Road to downtown Carrboro. A new sidewalk will also provide access to the J bus stop on South Greensboro Street and will better connect the Roberson Place Bike Path to Chapel Hill.

To receive an invitation to participate in one of the meetings, residents must send an email to Planning Administrator Tina Moon at cmoon@townofcarrboro.org  and include the date of the meeting you plan to attend.
