In the third episode of “Inside Voices,” (available to stream at the bottom of this page) join host Kevin “Kaze” Thomas for a conversation with D.J. Salmon — a real estate broker with Berkshire Hathaway and North Carolina Central University — about the differences found in housing markets across divides of all kinds, from red-lining practices to the legacy of credit.

“When we get into the conversation about it being systemic, so what we’re really saying is that this is something that’s built in and it really has nothing to do with how you feel about it, or whether you think it’s fair or not,” said Salmon. “… Being able to own a home creates generational wealth. Well, if you have generations that were completely barred from that process, there’s no passing down that they can do of their homes to the next generation.”

Listen below as Kaze and Salmon talk about the financial structure in the United States, credit and housing practices that have lead to a systemic economic bias that persists today, and more on this episode of “Inside Voices.”
