This week on “Inside Voices,” join host Kevin “Kaze” Thomas for a conversation with Kisha Love Lee, of Onyx Urban Radio, about being a Black woman in radio, putting in the work to make something happen and what it means to be “all independent, all the time.”

“A lot of people ask me, have I been in radio and things like that,” said Lee. “Prior, I had but not anything to this extent — and it was something I always wanted to do. I always wanted to host a ‘Quiet Storm’ type of show, and then literally, it fell in my lap. The opportunity fell in my lap, and I decided to go with it. I started producing the show, fell in love with it. When they went on hiatus, I was crushed. I was like, ‘this cannot be the end of my show.’ … I’m the type of person. I’m very solution-oriented. So I said, ‘okay, how can I continue to show?’ … ‘let me actually see what it would take to actually run my own radio station.’ So I was like, it sounds like a lot of work, but I’m willing.”
