A pair of second-half goals from Giovanni Montesdeoca and Taff Wadda on Friday helped lift the fourth-ranked UNC men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Duke in the fall regular season finale.

Montesdeoca scored on a header from close range in the 56th minute to put the Tar Heels ahead, while Wadda added the insurance in the 83rd minute when he completed a give-and-go play with teammate Akeim Clarke. The goals followed the game flow of the evening, with the UNC tallying 12 shots in the match compared to just eight for Duke.

As a result, UNC ends the fall portion of the season with a record of 3-1-2 while Duke fell to 2-5-0.

Friday’s result continues a dominant stretch in the rivalry for UNC, with the Heels winning seven of their last eight meetings with Duke. Carolina is 14-2-2 in the last 18 meetings in the series.
