A first-half goal by Alex Rose proved to be the difference on Sunday night in Durham for the No. 18 UNC men’s soccer team, which held Duke scoreless in a 1-0 victory.

Rose came off the bench for star forward Giovanni Montesdeoca, who left the game after a collision with a Duke player.

Following a throw-in, UNC’s Tim Schels found Rose with a pass which he promptly sent into the bottom right corner of the net.

Tar Heel goalkeeper Alec Smir recorded his ninth shutout of the season, as UNC (7-4-3) finishes the regular season having held its opponents scoreless in 24 of 28 total halves played.

Duke ends the regular season with a record of 4-10-3.
