After guiding the top-ranked Tar Heels to wins over Miami and No. 5 Florida State over the weekend, UNC senior Sara Daavettila was selected Tuesday as the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Daavettila defeated the No. 2 ranked player in the country–Miami’s Estela Perez-Somarriba– in three sets on Friday (6-7, 6-0, 1-0) and then earned another three-set win over No. 27-ranked Giulia Pairone (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) on Sunday.
In doubles competition against Florida State, she teamed with Cameron Morra to knock off the No. 7 ranked doubles pairing of Victoria Allen and Petra Hule by a convincing score of 6-2.
Daavettila and the Tar Heels are currently 13-0 this season and have won 31 consecutive dual matches dating back to last year.
This weekend will see UNC travel to face both Clemson and Georgia Tech on the road.
