Make it 38 consecutive dual match victories for the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team, which rolled to a 6-1 victory on Sunday–while celebrating Senior Day–against No. 12 NC State.
To take the doubles point at the beginning of the match, UNC defeated two of the nation’s top-10 doubles pairings–sending quite the message to their rivals.
UNC’s Reilly Tran (6-1, 6-1), Sara Daavettila (7-5, 6-0) and Fiona Crawley (6-1, 4-6, 6-1) were the first three players to win their singles matches–clinching the team win for the Tar Heels.
Makenna Jones (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Alexa Graham (7-6, 3-6, 1-0) soon joined Daavettila as seniors to win their final home singles matches.
The Tar Heels improved to 20-0 this season with a 10-0 mark inside the conference, after going 18-0 during the shortened 2020 campaign.
NC State, meanwhile, fell to 14-4 overall and 8-3 against ACC opponents.
