The top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team opened up ACC play at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill Wednesday afternoon with a dominant 5-2 victory over the rival NC State Wolfpack.

A 6-3, 6-3 straight sets victory in singles competition from Jessie Aney clinched the victory for the Tar Heels and kept them undefeated so far in 2018–with their record now up to 12-0 (1-0 ACC).

UNC sprinted out to a 3-0 lead in the team score after coming from behind to take the doubles point, then taking each of the first two singles matches thanks to solid performances from Makenna Jones (6-0, 6-0) and Alexa Graham (6-2, 6-3).

It took the day’s biggest upset for NC State (4-6, 0-1 ACC) to get on the scoreboard, as No. 113 Anna Rogers took down No. 8 Alle Sanford in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).

Aney finished her match shortly after to remove any doubt about the overall outcome, while Sara Daavettila tacked on another singles win (7-5, 6-4) for Tar Heels just for good measure.
