The UNC women’s soccer team opened its season in style on Thursday night in Chapel Hill, with Rachel Jones scoring twice on the way to a 4-1 victory over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Junior Brianna Pinto–a Preseason All-ACC selection–put the Tar Heels on the board first with a goal in the 22nd minute, representing the third straight year she’s scored in UNC’s season opener.
Jones tallied her first goal of the game just over a minute later, which ultimately proved to be the game-winner.
Wake Forest (0-2-0) recorded its only goal of the night in the 35th minute by way of Sophie Faircloth.
After taking a 2-1 lead into halftime, the Tar Heels extended their lead on a penalty kick goal from Jones in the 58th minute.
Sophomore Hallie Klanke then capped off the scoring in the 69th minute with a nice chip over the goalkeeper, as UNC cruised to the victory from there.
With the win, the Tar Heels improve to 35-5-2 all-time in season openers.
