The ACC announced Wednesday that UNC redshirt senior Troy Heilmann was named its Co-Wrestler of the Week alongside NC State redshirt freshman Hayden Hidlay.
Both Heilmann and Hidlay helped the Tar Heels and Wolfpack, respectively, as each North Carolina school pulled off a road upset at No. 12 Nebraska this past week.
Heilmann–who wrestles at 149 pounds for UNC–picked up a 13-4 major decision victory over Nebraska’s Colton McCrystal, the nation’s eighth-ranked wrestler in that weight class.
Although the Tar Heels came up just short as a team on Sunday in a 17-16 loss to No. 15 Northern Iowa, Heilmann did his part to help out by picking up a 3-2 win against sixth-ranked Max Thomsen.
The individual victories–both of which came against top-10 opponents–increased Heilmann’s record this season to 15-1–a mark which includes five wins over ranked foes.
