The UNC softball team wrapped up play at the UNCG Invite on Sunday with an 8-5 loss to the host UNCG Spartans.

Despite going ahead 3-0 in the third inning thanks to home runs by Campbell Hutcherson and Lexi Godwin, the Tar Heels were unable to avoid a fourth consecutive loss as the Spartans (7-5) chipped away at the lead with one run in the fourth frame before exploding for three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to build an advantage UNC was unable to overcome.

Hutcherson finished the game with four RBIs for the Tar Heels, but her big day at the plate was ultimately not enough to overcome UNCG’s late offensive onslaught.

UNCG hit a total of four home runs in the game, including two by Kayleigh Willis. Those big flies provided the difference in the game, as both teams finished with a total of 10 hits.
