The UNC women’s lacrosse team was ranked No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason poll on Thursday, as the Tar Heels will begin the 2021 campaign right where they left off last season.

When the 2020 season was cut short by COVID-19, the Tar Heels were steamrolling opponents on the way to a perfect 7-0 record.

The NCAA granted all players an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic, which will allow head coach Jenny Levy’s squad to have even more fire power alongside a talented recruiting class.

Notre Dame was ranked No. 2 in the poll, followed by No. 3 Loyola, No. 4 Syracuse and No. 5 Stony Brook.

The rest of the top 10 consists of: No. 6 Northwestern, No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Maryland, No. 9 Michigan and No. 10 Richmond.

Other ACC teams among the poll joining UNC, Notre Dame and Syracuse include: No. 15 Duke, No. 17 Boston College, No. 18 Virginia and No. 20 Virginia Tech.
