After dropping the first set on Friday against winless Wake Forest, the UNC volleyball team recovered nicely for a hard-fought 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20) over the Demon Deacons at Carmichael Arena.

Skyy Howard led the Tar Heels (9-4, 8-3 ACC) with a team-high 16 kills to go along with five blocks, while Chapel Hill native Kaya Merkler added 13 kills and three blocks of her own.

UNC posted a team hitting percentage of .295 in the match, which proved to be the difference as Wake Forest actually tallied more total kills than the Tar Heels (53-51) but also racked up 22 errors.

Wake Forest (0-11, 0-10 ACC) also built a 12-7 lead to begin the fourth set, but the Tar Heels rallied to tie it at 18-18 before closing the set on a 7-2 run to clinch the victory.
