Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Wake Forest (25-22, 25-20, 26-24) at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill marked the first time since Sept. 26–a streak that spans 10 matches–that the UNC volleyball team came out as winners.

In addition to snapping the two-month long losing streak, the Tar Heels (6-17, 2-11 ACC) gave longtime head coach Joe Sagula his 800th career coaching victory and 597th at UNC.

“I’m thankful to all the alumni who were here today and to this team in particular who made a point in wanting to win today,” Sagula said afterwards. “I’m so appreciative of them and all the players and coaches who share these 800 wins with me. When I look back, I’m happy there were a lot of Tar Heels around and to have been able to get this win at home in Carmichael too.”

Destiny Cox led the offensive effort by posting 13 kills for the Tar Heels, while Skyler Wine and Madison Laufenberg chipped in eight and seven, respectively.

UNC also carved out a solid .224 hitting percentage, while holding Wake Forest (8-18, 3-11 ACC) to a mark of just .130.
