After scoring twice in the second half to tie Sunday’s ACC Tournament Final at 2-2, the third-ranked UNC women’s soccer team ended up surrendering a goal in the 84th minute which served as the difference in a 3-2 loss to the No. 7 Florida State Seminoles.

Playing at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, the Tar Heels (17-3-1) fell behind when Florida State’s Dallas Dorosy scored two goals over a five-minute span just before halftime.

UNC then began its response with a goal in the 63rd minute from Alex Kimball that arose from a poor defensive clearing attempt. From there, Ru Mucherera scored her first goal of the entire season on a header off of teammate Rachel Jones’ cross to tie things back up in the 72nd minute.

Although momentum appeared to be with the Tar Heels at that time, the Seminoles (15-4-2) answered when Dorosy crossed the ball into Kristina Lynch–who then promptly slipped the ball past UNC goalkeeper Samantha Leshnak at close range.

Lynch’s goal ultimately ended up as the only separation in the match between two teams who each finished the day with 10 shots apiece.
