The highly anticipated rematch of last year’s NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship game on Thursday night in Chapel Hill went in favor of the No. 3 Tar Heels, which scored twice in the late stages of the evening to earn a 2-0 victory over the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles.

Ru Mucherera opened the scoring in the 76th minute, while Brianna Pinto converted a breakaway opportunity in the 83rd minute to add the insurance goal.

The Seminoles actually piled up 14 shots to just 11 for UNC on Thursday, but were unable to convert on any of their chances.

As a result, UNC remains on top of the ACC standings at 14-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 against conference opponents. Florida State, meanwhile, falls to 12-4 with a 6-2 mark in ACC play.
