The fourth-ranked UNC women’s soccer team advanced to the ACC Tournament Semifinals on Sunday, after knocking off the No. 23 Florida State Seminoles 2-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
Not only did the Tar Heels move on to the next round, they also ended Florida State’s four-year reign as the conference tournament champion.
Zoe Redei scored her first goal of the season for the Tar Heels in the 15th minute, when she sent home a rebound following a shot from teammate Bridgette Andrzejewski.
UNC (13-2-2) doubled its lead in the second half after a successful penalty kick opportunity from Taylor Otto.
Although Florida State (11-6-1) responded with a goal from Dallas Dorosy just four minutes after Otto’s tally, the Tar Heel defense held the Seminoles to just one shot the rest of the way.
In total, UNC racked up 18 shots–including nine on goal–while limiting the Seminoles to just three shots for the entire game.
