Freshman forward Rachael Dorwart picked the perfect time to score her second goal of the season, as her finish in the 65th minute on Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary led the third-ranked UNC women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the No. 23 Clemson Tigers in the ACC Tournament Semifinals.

A cross from fellow freshman Rachel Jones found Dorwart on the near post and the rest was history as the Tar Heels locked up their third consecutive ACC Championship Game appearance.

UNC (17-2-1) dominated the first half by out-shooting the Tigers (12-8) by an 8-1 margin. Clemson responded, however, by defeating the Tar Heels 3-2 in that category during the course of the second half.

None of that mattered in the end, though, as Dorwart’s goal proved to be the ultimate difference maker–earning the Tar Heels a chance to play Florida State for all the marbles on Sunday (12 p.m.)
