A battle between two of the nation’s top three women’s soccer teams went in favor of the top-ranked Tar Heels on Thursday night in Chapel Hill, as they shut out the No. 3 Clemson Tigers by a score of 2-0.

Sam Meza found the back of the net just under six minutes into the action to put UNC (4-0-0) ahead for good, while Rachel Jones added the insurance goal on a penalty kick midway through the first half.

The two goals were the first surrendered by Clemson (3-1-0) so far this season.

For the game, the Tar Heels tallied 13 shots compared to only six for the Tigers. UNC also racked up six corner kick attempts, while Clemson could muster only one.
