Rachel Jones scored her second game-winning goal of the season on Sunday afternoon, as her 25th-minute tally led the fifth-ranked UNC women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory on the road over the Clemson Tigers.
It was the sixth consecutive match between the two teams decided by one goal or less, with five of those matches ending in Tar Heel victories and the other one ending in a 1-1 draw.
Jones was able to break through mid-way through the first half when she collected a steal off one of Clemson’s defenders and then placed the ball into past the goalkeeper and into the right side of the net.
The defensive battle saw UNC (8-2-1) finish with 11 total shots compared to six for the Tigers (7-4, 2-1 ACC).
