Locked in a tight battle for most of the match with last year’s ACC co-champions on Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena, the UNC volleyball team came up just short in its upset bid–falling 3-2 to the Louisville Cardinals (20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 27-25, 13-15).

The teams played 29 points with the score tied during the match, but it was Louisville (9-4, 2-0 ACC) who came up with the critical plays at the end.

Ava Bell led the Tar Heels (4-7, 0-2 ACC) with 20 kills in the match, followed by a career-high 15 from Skyler Wine and 10 from Destiny Cox.

Meanwhile, Hunter Atherton posted a double-double with 49 assists and a career-high 22 digs for UNC.

The Tar Heels fought back from a 12-7 deficit in the final set before ultimately dropping the match.
