The UNC volleyball team came up just short of a big victory on Saturday in Pittsburgh, falling to No. 25 Florida State in five sets 3-2 (25-16, 12-25, 18-25, 25-21, 9-15).

For the match, the Tar Heels (10-5, 9-4 ACC) tallied 12 service aces and received a team-high 15 kills from Chapel Hill native Kaya Merkler–but that wouldn’t be enough to get over the hump at the end.

After both teams split the first four sets, the fifth set featured five tie scores and three lead changes before Florida State (10-5, 7-5 ACC) finally pulled away to clinch the win.

Florida State’s hitting percentage of .248 ultimately made the difference on Saturday, with the Tar Heels posting just a .157 mark in that category.
