Despite losing a 2-0 lead after winning the first two sets on Sunday in Tallahassee, the UNC volleyball team held off a furious rally to defeat the Florida State Seminoles in five sets, 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 23-25, 15-13).
The Tar Heels (14-11, 11-4 ACC) were also down 9-1 in the final set before rattling off nine consecutive points to take the lead back for good.
A trio of UNC players ended the match with double digit kills, led by 18 from freshman Lauren Harrison. Carly Peck added 14 and Parker Austin chipped in 10 to round out UNC’s top offensive performances.
With the loss, Florida State falls to 17-8 overall with a 10-5 record in conference play. The Seminoles had the better hitting percentage on Sunday (.322 to the .234 for the Tar Heels), but were unable to seal the deal in crunch time.
