Tim Schels scored just under seven minutes into overtime on Saturday night in South Bend, lifting the 16th-ranked UNC men’s soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame.

Notre Dame (8-7-0, 4-5-0 ACC) took the lead early in the game on a goal from Reese Mayer in the 20th minute of action, and would go on to take that same 1-0 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, UNC (6-3-3, 6-1-3 ACC) answered to tie the match in the 63rd minute when Santiago Herrera found the back of the net.

Neither team scored the rest of regulation, forcing extra time.

Schels then received a pass from teammate Key White–who had just subbed into the game–and made his way past the Fighting Irish defenders, scoring what would become both the game-winning goal and his first goal of the season.
