Notre Dame’s Aiden McFadden scored on a free kick just under 10 minutes into the first overtime period on Sunday to lift the Fighting Irish to a 1-0 upset victory over No. 3 UNC in the ACC Men’s Soccer Tournament quarterfinals.

Officials called the Tar Heels (3-2-2) for a foul just outside the left of the goalie box, which is where McFadden’s game-winning free kick took place.

UNC had a slight advantage in shots for the match, racking up 12 compared to only 10 for Notre Dame (5-3-0), but were unable to break through despite plenty of opportunities.

Goalkeeper Keegan McLaughlin made a career-high five saves to help Notre Dame get the shutout.
