The third-ranked UNC men’s soccer team closed out its regular season in style Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, using a goal and an assist from Jelani Pieters as it defeated No. 16 Notre Dame 3-0.
Pieters scored the only goal of the first half off a beautiful corner kick from Cam Lindley, a tally that would eventually prove to be the game-winner.
UNC (14-2-1, 6-1-1 ACC) then put the nail in the coffin with a pair of second-half goals just under two minutes apart.
An assist from Pieters in the 73rd minute helped Jack Skahan score his first career goal, while senior Alan Winn came off the bench to score his team-leading ninth goal of the year not long after.
For Notre Dame (9-5-2, 3-3-2 ACC), the loss extended the team’s winless streak to four games.
The Tar Heels, meanwhile, finish the regular season as the ACC Coastal Division Champions–and will head into the conference tournament as the No. 2 overall seed.
