A rivalry showdown on Friday in Chapel Hill featuring two of the nation’s top 10 women’s tennis teams went in favor of the top-ranked Tar Heels, who dispatched No. 9 Duke by a score of 6-1.

For UNC, this marks its sixth consecutive victory against Duke (10-3, 5-2 ACC) and extends the program’s ACC-record winning streak to 35 dual matches.

The Tar Heels (17-0, 7-0 ACC) clinched the doubles point to begin the match behind a strong performance from Sara Daavettila and Cameron Morra (6-1).

From there, freshman Reilly Tran cruised to a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory in singles competition to put UNC ahead 2-0.

UNC clinched the team victory following back-to-back singles wins from Makenna Jones (6-1, 6-2) and Fiona Crawley (6-4, 6-2).

In the day’s featured singles match on court one, No. 4 ranked Sara Daavettila handled Duke’s No. 8 ranked Kelly Chen in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

Anika Yarlagaada also added a straight set win for the Tar Heels, defeating Karolina Berankova 6-1, 6-4.
