For the first time this season, the UNC volleyball team was forced to play a fifth set on Saturday night. Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, they came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 loss (25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 18-25, 13-15) to the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels as part of the UC Irvine Invitational.

The Tar Heels (1-4) led two sets to one and appeared to be on the brink of victory, but UNLV (3-3) had other ideas–eventually rallying to complete the comeback victory.

Skyler Wine led UNC with 17 kills, while Parker Austin joined her in double digits with 12 of her own.

Both teams committed 23 errors in the game, but UNLV’s superior hitting percentage (.248 compared to .204 for UNC) proved to be the difference.
