Just two days after a thrilling comeback victory over No. 5 Princeton, the top-ranked UNC field hockey team took care of business easily against Penn on Sunday in Chapel Hill–picking up a 6-0 shutout victory over the Quakers.

The six goals were the most the team has scored this season, while the Tar Heel defense earned its first shutout of 2019 as well.

Erin Matson started the scoring in the 19th minute of action, a goal that would be followed up by four more over the next nine minutes. Joining Matson with first-half goals was a group of players including: Marissa Creatore, Eva Smolenaars, Catherine Hayden and Riley Fulmer.

Hayden added another goal in the second half to create the final scoreline.

For UNC, this marks the team’s 27th consecutive victory dating back to last season. The Tar Heels are 4-0 in 2019.

Penn fell to 0-2 with the loss.
