For the third consecutive season, the ACC selected UNC junior forward Erin Matson as the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year.

Announced as the winner on Thursday, Matson led the ACC this season with 56 points, scoring 24 goals and dishing out eight assists. She becomes the just the second field hockey athlete to ever win ACC Offensive Player of the Year three consecutive times, joining Maryland’s Katie O’Donnell — who accomplished the feat four straight times from 2007-10.

Matson won the ACC Offensive Player of the Week award six times this season, as she moved into second on UNC’s all-time scoring list and eighth in ACC history.

UNC’s Karen Shelton was also named the league’s Coach of the Year in voting conducted by the league’s seven head coaches.

The Tar Heels finished the regular season with a record of 15-1 and are seeking their third straight national championship.

For Shelton — the legendary coach who has the on-campus field hockey stadium named in her honor–this marks her 11th ACC Coach of the Year award.
