Junior pitcher Brittany Pickett led the UNC softball team to a 9-1 victory over the Boston College Eagles on Friday afternoon in Chapel Hill, while allowing just one hit and tossing all five innings.

It was the ACC home opener for the Tar Heels, who improved to 13-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

For Pickett, it was her first career one-hitter. She struck out eight batters and her only hit given up was a solo home-run to Boston College’s Emme Martinez in the top of the fourth inning–while the Tar Heels already had a 3-0 lead.

As a result, Boston College dropped to 7-12 overall this year with an 0-1 mark against conference opponents.
