Day One of the NCAA Kissimmee Regional at the Watson Course and Reunion Resort ended on Monday with the No. 3 seed UNC men’s golf team sitting in a tie with top-seeded Vanderbilt for fifth place with a combined team score of 5-under-par.

Austin Hitt posted the best individual performance of the day for the Tar Heels with a 4-under-par 68, while Jose Montaño checked in just behind with a 3-under-par 69.

Seniors Ben Griffin and William Register–the program’s top two all-time leaders in scoring average–ended the day with a 72 and a 74, respectively.

Florida and Central Florida are currently tied for the team lead at 12-under par, with Kent State (-8) and South Florida (-6) the other teams ahead of UNC and Vanderbilt on the leaderboard.
