Playing amongst a 15-team field at the Olympia Fields Country Club Invitational which included 10 teams from last year’s NCAA Championship Tournament, the UNC men’s golf team finished Sunday’s final round in fourth place on the team leaderboard.

The Tar Heels ended the tournament with a combined score of 16-over par, 10 strokes behind co-champions Georgia Tech and Baylor.

Baylor’s Cooper Dossey won the individual tournament at 4-under-par, while UNC’s Austin Hitt was the Tar Heels’ top finisher at 1-over-par–good enough to tie for seventh place.

“We were looking forward to this tournament because you learn so much,” UNC head coach Andrew Dibitetto said afterwards. “You learn how you stack up against the best teams in the country early in the season and you learn how your golf game stacks up on a major championship golf course. As a team, we did a lot of things very well this weekend. We also have a clear understanding about where we can improve our games, collectively and as individuals.”
