The watch list for the 2018 Tewaaraton Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top men and women’s lacrosse players, was released Thursday night with a pair of UNC women’s players making the cut.
Seniors Ela Hazar and Marie McCool were among the 50 nominated for the honor on the women’s side, as they compete to be recognized as the top player in the land.
Through four games this season, Hazar has posted six goals and a team-high 10 assists while McCool has dished out only two assists but scored a team-high 18 goals.
Both players were named All-Americans after last season, but McCool was also among the top five finalists for the Tewaaraton Award at the end of the year.
Players who weren’t named to the watch list can still earn their way into contention for the honor with outstanding play throughout the rest of the season.
The field of 50 will be cut in half on April 25, with the five finalists officially being announced a few weeks later on May 10.
