The UNC volleyball team kicked off its ACC schedule Friday night at Carmichael Arena with a 3-0 loss in straight sets to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-25, 20-25, 22-25).

Destiny Cox led the Tar Heels with 12 kills in the match, while Hunter Atherton was responsible for the assist on 31 of the team’s 37 total kills.

Despite those strong individual efforts, the Fighting Irish (7-4, 1-0 ACC) controlled the majority of the action–posting a .308 hitting percentage compared to just .117 for UNC (4-6, 0-1 ACC).

Notre Dame scored the first seven points of the match and was never truly threatened at any point as the Tar Heels dropped their third match in their last four tries.
