UNC lost both of its chances to claim a title in this year’s women’s Oracle ITA Masters tournament at Pepperdine University, as Makenna Jones and Sara Daavettila each came up short in their second round matches on Friday.
The nation’s No. 2 ranked singles player, Jones was defeated by USC freshman Salma Ewing 6-4, 7-6. Daavettila, who came into the event ranked No. 27 lost to UCLA freshman Elysia Bolton 7-6, 6-2.
Last season saw UNC’s Alle Sanford claim the Oracle ITA Masters championship as a freshman.
