Looking to pull off a major upset over the undefeated Pittsburgh Panthers–a squad ranked No. 6 in the nation–the UNC volleyball team instead was defeated 3-0 in straight sets on Friday evening at Carmichael Arena (13-25, 17-25, 16-25).

As a result, the Tar Heels dropped to 5-11 this season with a 1-6 record in the ACC. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, improves to 19-0 overall and 7-0 against conference opponents.

Skyler Wine and Destiny Cox each had eight kills to lead the UNC offense, but it was nowhere near enough to hold off a Pittsburgh team motivated to keep its perfect record intact.

The second set was the only time the Tar Heels were ever ahead on the scoreboard at any time, as they went up 12-11 in that period before the Panthers reeled off 14 of the next 19 points.

Pittsburgh also opened the match by scoring nine of the first 10 points and ended the contest with a highly impressive .376 hitting percentage.
