The UNC women’s golf team kicked off its home tournament with a combined score of 9-over-par in Friday’s first round of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill.
That score was good enough for 10th place out of 18 teams on the overall team leaderboard, with senior Kelly Whaley the team’s top individual with an even-par 72.
Freshman Jennifer Zhou was right behind Whaley with a score of 1-over-par (73), while Nicole Lu finished with a 2-over-par 74.
Duke currently sits in first place as a team at 17-under-par.
The second round of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational will be played on Saturday.
