With their 14th straight victory to begin the 2018 season coming on Friday night–a 4-1 win on the road at No. 12 Boston College–the top-ranked UNC field hockey team clinched the ACC regular season championship.

After Lucy Lytle scored in the 11th minute to put Boston College (8-5, 2-3 ACC) in the lead, UNC (14-0, 6-0 ACC) ultimately rattled off the next four goals to close the game out in style.

Marissa Creatore and Catherine Hayden each scored in the first half, while Ashley Hoffman and Eva Van’t Hoog added goals in the second half for head coach Karen Shelton.

This came despite the Tar Heels recording just eight total shots in the game compared to nine for Boston College.

UNC finishes ACC play undefeated for the 15th time in school history, but first time since 2012.

“Hats off to Boston College,” Shelton said afterwards. “They outshot us and outcornered us, and they had a good game plan and really disrupted the way we play.

“I’m very pleased to get the win but I think we need to do better when we have that kind of pressure. BC gave us everything we could handle.”
