In a rematch of the ACC Championship game on Friday as part of the NCAA Tournament Semifinals in Winston-Salem, the top-ranked UNC field hockey team defeated Boston College 6-3 to remain undefeated and advance to Sunday’s NCAA Championship Game.
Sophomore Erin Matson–the nation’s leading scorer–had four goals for UNC (22-0), while Riley Fulmer and Marissa Creatore each added one apiece.
Boston College (15-8) took a 2-1 lead early in the second quarter thanks to a pair of goals from Margo Carlin, but Matson’s scoring surge helped put the Tar Heels ahead for good prior to halftime.
As a result, the Tar Heels will have a chance to play for their second consecutive national championship–not to mention their second straight perfect season.
