The fifth-ranked UNC men’s lacrosse team narrowly avoided its first loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon in Chapel Hill, holding off the Bryant Bulldogs for an 18-16 victory to improve to 7-0 so far in the 2020 campaign.

Junior Chris Gray was sensational yet again for the Tar Heels, recording a team-high eight points with four goals and four assists. Nicky Solomon added three goals and two assists, while Tanner Cook and William Perry added three and two goals, respectively.

In addition, sophomore faceoff specialist Zac Tucci won 25 of his 38 draw attempts, setting a new UNC single-game record.

Bryant (3-4) held a 9-7 lead at halftime, representing the first time the Tar Heels have trailed at the break all season long.

UNC outscored the Bulldogs 8-2 in the third quarter to take the lead back, then managed to hold off Bryant’s charge in the fourth quarter to hang on for the win.

This now marks just the sixth time in program history that the Tar Heels have started a season with seven straight wins, and first time doing so since 2015.
