Make it eight consecutive victories to begin the 2021 season for the top-ranked UNC men’s lacrosse team, as the Tar Heels cruised to a 15-5 win over Air Force on Saturday at Dorrance Field.

William Perry led the Tar Heels (8-0) with four goals in the game, while Tewaaraton Award contender Chris Gray tallied two goals and six assists for a total of eight points.

Justin Anderson, Tanner Cook and Nicky Solomon each added two goals apiece in a game where UNC took full control by the second quarter.

Air Force (1-5) scored the game’s first goal and kept the game tied at 2-2 until the final seconds of the first quarter–when Anderson scored on an assist by Gray to kickstart what turned into an 8-0 run.

By halftime, the Tar Heels led 10-2 and had erased all doubts about the game’s final outcome.

The second half was merely a formality, as both teams scored once in the third quarter before the Tar Heels extended their lead with a 4-2 advantage in the fourth.

UNC had a significant edge in shots for the game, collecting 51 overall while holding Air Force to just 34 opportunities on the other end.

With their eighth win of the season, the Tar Heels have now won their last 15 games overall after going 7-0 in the shortened 2020 campaign.
