Despite rallying from five goals down at halftime to force an extra period on Sunday in College Park, the third-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season in overtime to the No. 2 Maryland Terrapins by a score of 13-12.

The Tar Heels (3-1) survived the first half of overtime after having to go three players down for just a bit, but Caroline Steele ultimately ended up finding the back of the net to give Maryland (3-0) the victory.

Jamie Ortega and Gianna Bowe each had three goals for UNC, while Ally Mastroianni added two of her own to go along with 10 draw control wins.

UNC trailed 9-4 following the first half, but rallied to take a 12-11 lead with just under 13 minutes remaining. From there, however, head coach Jenny Levy’s squad was unable to find a goal the rest of the way.
