The 18th-ranked UNC wrestling team picked up a victory over an in-state rival on Sunday in Chapel Hill, taking a 19-13 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

UNC won six of the 10 individual matches, including a 14-4 major decision victory by Zach Sherman at 141 pounds in order to come out on top.

Appalachian State took a 4-0 lead to begin the dual after taking a major decision at 149 pounds, but the Tar Heels responded by winning each of the next five bouts to take control of the dual for good.

Other winners for the Tar Heels included: A.C. Headlee (157 pounds), Kennedy Monday (165), Clay Lautt (174), Joey Mazzara (184 pounds) and Brandon Whitman (197).

UNC is now 3-1 this season in dual matches after picking up this victory.

The Tar Heels return to the mat on Dec. 20 to face Little Rock on the road at 8 p.m.
