Despite falling behind early on Sunday in South Bend, the top-ranked UNC men’s tennis team came from behind to defeat Notre Dame by a score of 4-2.

The Fighting Irish took the lead by winning the doubles point early in the match, then also got a singles victory on Court Two from Axel Nevfe over UNC’s Benjamin Sigouin.

UNC won each of the other four completed singles matches, however, with the most impressive win coming from sophomore Rinky Hijikata on Court One. Hijikata defeated No. 6 ranked Richard Ciamarra in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

The other players to win singles matches for the Tar Heels included: Brian Cernoch (6-4, 6-4), Mac Kiger (6-4, 6-4) and Logan Zapp (7-6, 6-3).

With the win, UNC remains undefeated this season at 10-0 with a 4-0 mark inside the ACC. Notre Dame had its three-match winning streak snapped, and falls to 8-7 overall and 3-3 against ACC opponents.
