Closing out play at the Carolina Classic on Sunday in Chapel Hill, the UNC softball team suffered an 8-1 loss to South Carolina.

The Gamecocks (12-3) scored five runs in the first inning and led 6-0 through the first two innings, as they avenged a loss to the Tar Heels suffered on Saturday.

Kiersten Licea picked up an RBI single in the third inning, which ended up being the only run UNC (8-6) would score all day.

South Carolina tacked on two more runs in fifth to complete the scoring for the day.

UNC pitcher Brittany Pickett threw her third complete game of the weekend and struck out eight hitters, earning a spot on the Carolina Classic All-Tournament team for her efforts.
